Greg Long, head of the Go Green Initiative at J.P. Morgan Chase, says his company has eliminated more than 103 million paper documents since the Go Green Campaign began in late 2007.
"This is the equivalent of reducing three million pounds of paper usage, 50 million pounds of greenhouse gases and preserving 33,000 trees annually," he says.
Chase is a part of the PayItGreen Alliance, coordinated by the Electronic Payments Association. It includes representatives from the Federal Reserve Banks, Bank of America, Citi, Wachovia, Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank. The public website at www.payitgreen.org provides a calculator through which people can instantly determine the environmental impact of a project.
