Girl's Supreme Court Justice Costume Gets Ginsburg Shoutout

It’s a bird, it’s a plane — it’s Notorious RBG!

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a superhero to Michele Threefoot, an 8-year-old girl in Columbia, MD, who dressed as the Supreme Court justice for her school’s “Superhero Day.”

She learned about Ginsburg from a children’s book called “I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark.” Michele’s mother, Krista, says her daughter responded to the stories Ginsburg told of the prejudices she faced as a child and her subsequent lifelong work to fight inequality.

“Michele gets pretty passionate about unfairness, especially relating to girls and women, so the book’s message really stuck with her,” Krista told The Huffington Post.

A Facebook photo of Michele in her Ginsburg garb quickly went viral, and caught the attention of an assistant to the justice.

A few weeks later, Michele received a handwritten note from Ginsburg that read, “Dear Michele: You look just like me! May you continue to thrive on reading and learning.”

The family is working on a thank-you note to the justice. “This wouldn’t have gone where it has if she weren’t such an admirable person,” Krista said about Ginsburg. “I also want to thank her for taking the time to make a little girl really, really happy.”
