Morris, Nelson, White, Clark and Lacey Named to Top Legal Posts: GC Roundup

An energy company, UCLA, a federal agency, a direct marketing and sales company, and a tech company are among the organizations naming women as general counsel or as legal officers.

Northern Power Systems Names June M. Morris General Counsel

Northern Power Systems, a renewable energy tech company, has named June M. Morris general counsel and vice president.

In her new post, Morris will oversee corporate policies and transactions, intellectual property, legal functions, mergers and acquisitions, and risk management.

She has over 30 years’ legal experience.  

Earlier, she was a general counsel and attorney at Pegasystems, Sequoia Systems and CGI Information Systems.

In a statement, Ciel Caldwell, president & COO of Northern Power Systems, noted Morris’s legal experience – and how it will help company growth.

 

Louise Nelson New Vice Chancellor of Legal Affairs at UCLA

UCLA has named Louise Nelson vice chancellor of legal affairs and associate general counsel. Her new responsibilities will include her establishing policy, training and processes to mitigate legal risk, UCLA said in a statement.

She will work on such fields as labor and employment, real estate development, land use, intellectual property and health care law.

Previously, she was senior vice president and assistant general counsel for Hilton Worldwide. Nelson had various other roles at Hilton, such as director of corporate administration, vice president of corporate administration, Hilton’s first chief privacy officer, and first vice president of ethics, compliance and privacy.

Prior to Hilton, Nelson was director of operations for the Los Angeles office of Co-Counsel. Earlier, she focused on real estate law at Stern Neubauer Greenwald & Pauly and at Jeffer Mangels Butler & Marmaro.

UCLA notes her experience in compliance, corporate matters, employment, ethics, information security, litigation and privacy.

Also, she is a nonexecutive director of Travel Sentry, a member of the board of trustees of the George Mason University Foundation, and on the board of directors of McLean Project for the Arts.

She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of California, Irvine. In 2013, InsideCounsel magazine named her one of the top 100 women ready to be general counsel in the next three years.

Sonya White Promoted to Deputy General Counsel at CFPB

The federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) recently named Sonya White deputy general counsel for general law and ethics in the legal division.

Earlier, White was the assistant general counsel for general law and ethics at the CFPB.

She was deputy chief counsel at the U.S. Treasury Department, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, before moving to the CFPB in 2013. 

Earlier, she represented federal clients in employment and labor litigation.

White received both her law degree and undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Jennifer Clark Named Chief Legal Officer of Credico North America

Credico North America has named Jennifer Clark chief legal officer for the direct marketing and sales company.

In the new role, she will lead Credico North America's compliance, human resources and legal departments.

Clark will oversee legal transactions and policies for new campaign markets, client procurement and business strategies.

Last year, Clark was named general counsel for the U.S. corporate office of Credico.

Earlier, she worked as a corporate counsel at another company.

She is a graduate of the law school at Michigan State and a graduate of Purdue University.

Eleanor Lacey New General Counsel, Senior Vice President at Sophos

Sophos, a UK-based tech company, has appointed Eleanor Lacey general counsel and senior vice president.

Lacey will be based in Santa Clara, California, and has close to 20 years’ experience as a vice president and general counsel for private and public software companies.

Recently, Lacey worked for SurveyMonkey where she was senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

Earlier, she was general counsel and vice president of business development at Corel Corporation; vice president of corporate and business development at SupportSoft; and vice president and general counsel at Niku.

In announcing the appointment, Sophos noted Lacey’s knowledge of corporate law and entrepreneurialism.

Lacey is a graduate of Yale Law School and the University of Massachusetts.
