Barrett was previously associate vice president and deputy general counsel

Monica C. Barrett has been appointed interim senior vice president and general counsel of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. She replaces John Farmer, Jr., who completed his temporary tenure as senior vice president and general counsel. Barrett has served in the Office of General Counsel since 1996 and was previously associate vice president and deputy general counsel.

“She is an expert in higher education law, specializing in faculty and staff labor issues, student affairs, university governance, and athletics,” Robert Barchi, wrote in an open letter. “I have worked closely with Monica and have absolute confidence in her leadership. She has a thorough understanding of the intricacies of our university and is the ideal person to lead the Office of General Counsel at this time.”
