It’s the buzziest IPO of the year so far, and Sarah P. Payne is part of it—Alibaba’s proposed public offering. The Sullivan & Cromwell partner is one of the attorneys advising the underwriters on the U.S. IPO of the Chinese company. According to the “Wall Street Journal,” the offering, which will most likely take place in early September, could raise more than $20 billion.

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. is the largest online and mobile commerce company in the world in terms of gross merchandise volume in 2013, according to the company’s filings with the U.S. Securities and Commission. The underwriters on the deal include Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC, Deutsche Bank Securities Inc., Goldman Sachs (Asia) L.L.C., J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, Morgan Stanley & Co. International plc and Citigroup Global Markets.

Resident in the Silicon Valley office, Payne has a broad-based corporate practice advising clients on a wide range of transactions, focusing on public and private securities offerings and public and private company mergers and acquisitions. Payne is co-head of the firm’s Technology M&A and Finance Group. She is also active in the firm’s corporate governance practice and advises clients on their continuing reporting obligations, Sarbanes-Oxley processes and other general corporate matters.
