Bowen sworn in as CFTC commissioner

Sharon Bowen

Previously a partner with Latham & Watkins, Sharon Bowen has been sworn in as a commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the federal agency that oversees the commodity futures, options and swaps industry.

Bowen, who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 3, had been a partner with Latham & Watkins since 1991. At the firm, she was co-chair of the Diversity Committee, co-chair of the Diversity Hiring Subcommittee and co-founder and head of Latham’s Women Enriching Business Task Force. Bowen was also vice chair of the Securities Investor Protection Corp. and became its acting chair in 2012.
