Maureen Gorsen, Alston & Bird
Maureen Gorsen is a partner with Alston & Bird’s Environmental and Land Use practice and provides public policy, litigation and regulatory advocacy and counsel to a range of manufacturers, brand owners, industrial facilities and landowners.
Maureeen provides compliance counsel on environmental, product and supply chain regulation issues, and assists clients in developing corporate policies to meet sustainability, chemical supply chain, anti-slavery and human trafficking, conflict minerals and related statutes.
Appointed by Governors Schwarzenegger and Wilson, Maureen served as director of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control where she directed soil and water clean-ups and regulation of hazardous waste, and spearheaded the California Green Chemistry Initiative. She also served as general counsel of the California EPA, where she oversaw enforcement policies and activities of related state, regional and local agencies, and served as general counsel for the California Natural Resources Agency, where she oversaw CEQA and Endangered Species Act reform.
