The University of Memphis has named Melanie Stovall Murry university counsel. She replaces Sheri Lipman, who was recently named U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Tennessee. In addition to providing leadership to the Office of Legal Counsel, Murry will also oversee the university’s Immigration Services.

“During her time at the university, Melanie has demonstrated a remarkable depth of knowledge, broad range of legal expertise and competence that will serve the University of Memphis well. I have great confidence in her leadership of the Office of Legal Counsel,” said M. David Rudd, incoming president of the University of Memphis, in a statement.

A graduate of the University of Tennessee, College of Law, Murry joined the university in 2002 and has served as both associate and assistant university counsel. She is also an adjunct faculty member for the doctoral program in higher education administration for the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences, as well as an instructor for the university’s Tennessee Institute for Pre-Law.
