New solution aids HIPAA compliance in the cloud

Citrix ShareFile designed to address tougher HIPAA rules in the cloud

The U.S. healthcare system has gotten an awful lot of press in the past few months, especially with the national drama regarding the Affordable Care Act. But the 1996 Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act has been guiding the healthcare industry for nearly two decades now, as providers in the space have had to ensure compliance with the act. The rise of cloud computing has created opportunities for providers to save money, but it has also created a host of challenges.

Now, Citrix has developed a new cloud solution for healthcare providers intended to address tougher HIPAA compliance regulations. ShareFile Cloud for Healthcare is a dedicated virtual private cloud designed to protect confidential health information. The new update to HIPAA, the Omnibus Rule, updated the compliance regulations related to the processing and storage of health information.

“Healthcare organizations need solutions in place that will help them protect confidential information from unintentional exposure and remain in compliance with the latest rules,” said Maribel Lopez, founder of Lopez Research, in a release. “Healthcare needs solutions like dedicated virtual private clouds for protected health information.”
