eDiscovery and the cloud: risks and advantages

Cloud solutions provide many business advantages, but they raise a number of questions businesses must carefully consider.

There are many clear business advantages of utilizing cloud solutions, from cost savings to alleviating the burden of overworked IT departments. But there are also a number of risks and complications, such as compliance issues and concerns over privacy and security of information.

In terms of eDiscovery, certain processes lend themselves better to cloud solutions than others. Processes that involve multiple resources in multiple locations both inside and out of the company network – such as processing, analysis, review, production and presentation – are good candidates for cloud solutions. In addition, providing one central repository for legal information, providing secure access to all geographically dispersed parties that are part of eDiscovery proceedings.
