President Obama will nominate Stephen Preston as general counsel of the Department of Defense. Preston is currently the general counsel of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), which he joined in 2009, and previously served as general counsel of the Department of the Navy from 1998 to 2000. Before joining the CIA, he was co-chair of WilmerHale’s defense and national security practice.
David Stryker is now the executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of Huntsman Corp. He joins his new employer after nine years at BASF Corp., where he was senior vice president, general counsel, secretary and chief compliance officer. His prior work experience also includes stints at Siemens Corp. and Kirkland & Ellis.
Steve Lehman joined Vidyo Inc. as general counsel. He most recently served as senior vice president and chief corporate/M&A counsel at the global financial and risk division of Thomson Reuters Corp. Before joining Thomson Reuters’ predecessor in 1999, Lehman was a corporate lawyer at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.
The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC), a non-profit think tank, appointed Tom Sullivan general counsel. Sullivan comes to the BPC from Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, where he was of counsel. His work experience also includes a seven-year stint as chief counsel for advocacy at the U.S. Small Business Administration.
David Reibel is now vice president and general counsel of Rocket Software, a software development firm. Reibel was most recently senior vice president, general counsel and secretary at Aspect Software, and has also held in-house positions at Way Systems and Aprisma Management Technologies.
Real estate developer and investor Robertson Properties Group promoted Mark Weinstock to general counsel. Weinstock joined the company in 2005 as vice president and senior counsel, and in his new role he will remain involved in the legal affairs of RPG’s affiliated companies, such as Hollybrook Senior Living, Pacific Theaters and The Decurion Corp. Before joining RPG, he was a partner at Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro.
Matthew Cushing was named senior vice president and general counsel at EnerNOC Inc., an energy intelligence software provider. Cushing most recently was senior vice president and general counsel at Acme Packet. He also has private practice experience, having served as a partner at Bingham McCutchen.
David Christopherson joined Floor and Decor Outlets of America, Inc., a specialty retailer of hard surface flooring, as general counsel. He was previously general counsel of Teavana Holdings, Inc., which was sold to Starbucks in December. He has also worked as a corporate attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell and King & Spalding.
Americold hired Todd Sheldon as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Most recently, Sheldon held the same title at Supervalu Inc., where he also served as chief legal officer. He previously served as vice president and senior legal counsel at Medtronic Inc.
Other In-House Moves
Janet Nova was promoted to executive vice president and deputy group general counsel at 21st Century Fox. The move is part of the reorganization of News Corp., which is dividing its publishing and entertainment groups. Nova has served in the company’s general counsel’s office since 1997. She previously was an associate in the corporate and securities practice at Simpson Thacher & Barlett.

Hunton & Williams hired Nathan Kutt as counsel in its financial institutions section. Kutt most recently was general counsel for the private equity firm BankCap Partners. He previously was general counsel of Mercantil Commercebank, N.A.
