Do you know what Vine is? If not, you’d better find out quickly—it could be the latest social media liability for your company.
We’ll help you out: Vine is a video app developed by Twitter that allows users to post looping six-second videos on the social media site. A lot of them are silly or harmless, but the Wall Street Journal reports that searching “bored,” “work” or “hatework” brings up some troubling Vines. Examples include a worker looking through what look like confidential documents and an employee smoking a bong in uniform.
As new technologies like Vine offer people more ways to share content online, in-house counsel should be sure to keep on top of developments, and update any relevant policies to make it clear what employees are and are not allowed to share on Vine and other social media platforms.
