9 noteworthy in-house career moves

Charting some of the most recent GC and in-house appointments

GC Appointments

Isobel Jones joined the natural and organic food company Annie’s Inc. as general counsel and secretary. Jones previously was vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Peets Coffe & Tea Inc. She also served as associate general counsel at Del Monte Foods from June 2003 to January 2012.

 

BPV Capital Management, an investment manager of mutual funds, named Leslie Beale general counsel and chief compliance officer. Beale most recently was the vice president of support services and general counsel at ES&H Inc., a firm focused on safety and health consulting, construction and government contracting. She previously served as a senior attorney at Ruby Tuesday Inc. and as an attorney at Baker Donelson.


Cliff Greenblatt is now vice president and general counsel of TASC Inc. Greenblatt joined the private defense contractor in 2010 as deputy general counsel. His prior in-house experience also includes stints at General Dynamics—where he served as assistant general counsel—Veridian Corp., Accenture, Qwest and MCI. He also was an associate at Steptoe & Johnson from 1990 to 1995.

 

Royal Neighbors of America hired Susan Mack as secretary and general counsel. Mack comes to the life insurance company from The Main Street America Group, where she was general counsel. She has also held GC positions at Transamerica Reinsurance and St. Paul Re Inc., and was senior corporate counsel at Aetna Life and Casualty.


Shelly Cooper was named senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of IAP Worldwide Services Inc. Cooper comes to the logistics provider after 13 years at United Space Alliance, where she most recently was vice president and general counsel. She previously spent 12 years at United Technologies Corp.

Other In-House Moves

Mark Rotenberg stepped down as general counsel of the University of Minnesota after 20 years on the job. Before joining the university, Rotenberg was a partner at Dorsey & Whitney, where he specialized in employment litigation and labor law, and an attorney in the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel. On June 3, Rotenberg will assume his new role as vice president and general counsel of Johns Hopkins University.


Todd Sheldon, senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Supervalu Inc., will leave the grocery chain next month. Before joining the company in 2008, Sheldon spent nearly eight years at Medtronic Inc., where he held titles including senior legal counsel for mergers and acquisitions and vice president and general counsel of the spinal and biologics business.

 

Delta Air Lines named Robert Rivkin senior vice president and deputy general counsel, international and regulatory affairs. Rivkin comes to the airline from the Department of Transportation, where he has served as general counsel since May 2009. He previously spent five years as vice president and general counsel of Aon Corp. and three years as general counsel of the Chicago Transit Authority.

Law Firm News

William Blumenthal joined Sidley Austin as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Blumenthal was general counsel of the Federal Trade Commission between 2005 and 2009. He most recently served as chairman of Clifford Chance’s U.S. antitrust group.
