Law firms have been seeing some ups and downs of late—and Patton Boggs is definitely experiencing some downs.
Sources told Thomson Reuters that the Washington, D.C.-based law firm has laid off some of its lawyers and administrative staff—however, the exact number is still unclear.
Patton Boggs had more than 550 lawyers and locations in nine cities around the world, and the firm has made a name for itself for its lobbying and public policy work. According to one source, the company planned a firmwide meeting early today to discuss the layoffs, which affected the New Jersey, New York and Washington, D.C., offices.
One unidentified Patton Boggs partner told Thomson Reuters, “I think the firm is just right-sizing.”
However, a Patton Boggs spokesman said yesterday, "We have nothing formal to announce at this time. We'd be glad to share any information when we do."
The layoffs reportedly affected both partner- and associate-level lawyers, as well as administrative staff.
