EPA general counsel heads to Washington, D.C., law firm

Scott Fulton joins Beveridge & Diamond as principal in March

The former general counsel of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is following in the footsteps of other top Washington officials and headed for law firm practice.

Scott Fulton, who President Obama nominated at lead the EPA in 2009, announced he will be joining Beveridge & Diamond as principal in March. Beveridge & Diamond is a 100-lawyer law firm based in Washington, D.C. It specializes in environmental and energy law.

Fulton has spent the past four years advising the EPA on legal issues surrounding greenhouse gas emissions as well as environmental policy and regulations. At the firm, his work may not differ much.

"The clients become different, but it will still be about understanding what the environmental obligations are," Fulton, who said he only planned on one term with the agency, told Thomson Reuters. "I spent 30 years with the federal government and am ready to turn my attention to some other pursuits."
