A litigious wind is blowing from China all the way to the White House. On Monday, Chinese company Ralls Corp. added President Barack Obama as a defendant in its lawsuit that claims the U.S. government unrightfully blocked the wind farm projects the company planned to build near the Naval Weapons Systems Training Facility in Oregon.
Ralls alleges that Obama “acted in an unlawful and unauthorized manner” when he ordered the company to halt construction on its wind farms on national security grounds. The company claims that Obama did not provide evidence of security risks, and gave Ralls no chance to respond to any existing threat.
The U.S. military uses the naval base to test unmanned drones and other warfare aircraft, and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States determined that it would be impossible to address the national security risks that Ralls’ wind farms would pose.
