On Sept. 6, InsideCounsel's First Annual Transformative Leadership Awards West (TLA West) in San Francisco honored general counsel and law firm partners who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the empowerment of women and attorneys of color in corporate law. Nicky Jatana (left), a partner at Jackson Lewis, and Megan Belcher (right), vice president and chief employment counsel of ConAgra Foods, Inc., accept the Sharing the Power Award. The honor is presented jointly to a woman general counsel or law department leader and a female law firm partner who have collaborated to increase the economic empowerment of female partners in that firm.
Teveia Barnes, commissioner of the Department of Financial Institutions--State of California, accepts the Debra L. Zumwalt Pioneer Award. The award is presented to a woman general counsel or senior executive who has used her status as the "first" to become a catalyst for change.
Hyun Park, senior vice president and general counsel of Pacific Gas & Electric Corp., accepts the James M. Strother Award, presented to a law firm or legal department leader who has accelerated the economic empowerment of women or attorneys of color.
Pat Gillette, a partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, won the Rainmaker Award, presented to a female partner who provides excellent client services while managing business that exceeds $2.5 million annually.
Charles Robinson, vice president and general counsel for legal affairs for the University of California, accepts the Louise H. Renne Pioneer in the Public Sector Award. The award recognizes a leader in the public sector who has used his or her position to positively impact the careers of women in the public sector, law firms or law departments.
Karen Cottle, SVP, general counsel and corporate secretary of Adobe Systems Inc., and Mary Doyle (pictured), VP, legal, and global chief compliance and ethics officer at Oracle Corp., won the Laura Stein Award. This award honors women general counsel who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to accelerate the ascendancy of women to senior leadership roles in law departments.
