Michael Dillon is now senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Adobe Systems Inc. His 25 years of corporate legal experience includes stints as general counsel and corporate secretary at both Silver Spring Networks and Sun Microsystems. Dillon replaces Karen Cottle, who is retiring from the GC spot after a decade.
ARAMARK appointed Steve Reynolds executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. Reynolds comes to the company from Alcatel-Lucent, where he most recently served as senior vice president and general counsel. He also was vice president and chief litigation counsel at pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis and spent 18 years practicing corporate and commercial law at Gibbons, Del Deo, Dolan, Griffinger & Vecchione and Haight, Gardner, Poor & Havens.
The Dallas City Council hired Scott Carlson as general counsel of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system. He previously was a member of DART’s board of directors, and senior counsel at the law firm Cavazos, Hendricks, Poirot & Smitham.
Bobbi Anderson was hired as principal and general counsel of Elementum Advisors, an independent investment manager. On Jan. 1, 2013, she will also assume the role of chief compliance officer. She previously was a partner at Sidley Austin, where she focused on corporate and regulatory matters related to the insurance industry.
John Hancock Financial named James Gallagher executive vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer. Gallagher has been with the company for 18 years, most recently serving as global compliance chief since 2005. In his new role, he will direct all legal and compliance functions and oversee brand management and communications operations.
Newmark Grubb Knight Frank appointed Jennifer Stein general counsel. Stein, who was general counsel for Grubb & Ellis, has served as co-general counsel since the company merged with Newmark Knight in April. She also held the general counsel spot at Pacific Monarch Resorts Inc., and has served in the legal departments at CB Richard Ellis, First American Title Insurance Co. and The Macerich Co.
Robert Slaughter was appointed chief legal officer of Avison Young, a commercial real estate services company. Slaughter has more than 30 years of both in-house and law firm experience, notably serving as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Grubb & Ellis Co. He also is a senior lecturer in residence at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
Steven Peri joined Glowpoint Inc., a provider of cloud managed video services, as executive vice president and general counsel. Peri previously was senior vice president and general counsel at Tandberg, a videoconferencing manufacturer that is now part of Cisco Systems Inc.
Other In-House Appointments
Gerson Zweifach, senior executive vice president and group general counsel of News Corp., will also take on the role of chief compliance officer. In his new role, he will lead News Corp.’s business units, which were recently reorganized into five compliance groups. He is also charged with investigating the company’s infamous phone hacking scandal. Before joining the company in January, Zweifach was a partner at Williams & Connolly.
Amy Schulman, general counsel of Pfizer Inc., will now oversee the company’s consumer health care business. She replaces Cavan Redmond, who departed in June to assume the chief executive role at WebMD Health Corp. Schulman joined the pharmaceutical company as general counsel in 2008, and has also served as head of nutrition since December 2010. She previously was a partner at DLA Piper.
Law Firm News
David Bernick joined Boies, Schiller & Flexner as a partner in its litigation practice. Bernick resigned as general counsel of Philip Morris International Inc. in February, after about two years with the company. His prior work experience also includes a stint as a senior partner at Kirkland & Ellis, where he also served on the firm’s managing committee.
Much Shelist added Tracy Kocourek as a special counsel in its intellectual property and technology practice group, where she will advise clients on a range of transactional matters. Kocourek previously was senior legal counsel and North America legal lead for Accenture Software.
