MGM settles suit over “Raging Bull”

Producers agreed to change the name of “Raging Bull II”

Jake LaMotta and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) have called a truce. The movie studio and former boxer have reached an agreement in the lawsuit MGM filed against LaMotta last month.

The studio filed suit against LaMotta and producers of the upcoming “Raging Bull II,” a sequel to the critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning 1980 film “Raging Bull,” which told the story of the rise and fall of LaMotta’s boxing career. MGM sought to stop production.

According to the settlement, announced last week, Dahlia Waingort—one of the producers of “Raging Bull II”—agreed to change the name of the film to “The Bronx Bull.”

“The parties have amicably reached a resolution of their pending litigation, pursuant to which production of a film based upon certain events in the life of Jake LaMotta will proceed under the working title ‘The Bronx Bull,’” MGM and Waingort said in a joint statement. “That film is not related in any way to the 1980 motion picture entitled ‘Raging Bull,’ and MGM is not associated with the film in any respect. Neither party will have any further statements regarding this matter.”
