9 noteworthy in-house career moves

Charting some of the most recent GC and in-house appointments

GC Appointments

Fiduciary education organization fi360 hired Byron Bowman as general counsel. Bowman has more than 30 years of legal experience, specializing in federal securities and banking law. He mostly recently ran his own law practice in Chicago. His prior in-house experience includes a general counsel posting at investment advisory company Hansberger Global Investors.

 

The Hershey Co. named Leslie Turner vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Turner comes to the candy company from Coca-Cola North America, where she spent four years as chief legal officer. During her 25 years in the field, she has held numerous government postings and served as a partner at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld.


Dalton Sprinkle joined OneRoof Energy as vice president of corporate affairs and general counsel. He previously was EVP and chief legal officer of Carbon Motors Corp., SVP and general counsel at Applied Solar Inc. and a special counsel at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton. In his new role, Sprinkle will oversee the company’s legal affairs and help to foster its corporate development and growth efforts.

 

Boutique investment bank Greenhill & Co. Inc. appointed Gavin Solotar managing director and general counsel. For the past 20 years, Solotar has worked at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, most recently as a partner focusing on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and securities law.


Paulette Dodson was hired as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of PetSmart Inc. Dodson comes to the company from Sara Lee Corp., where she also served as SVP, general counsel and secretary. Her prior work experience also includes a 14-year stint at the Tribune Co., where she served as assistant general counsel for publishing from 2000 to 2007. Dodson also spent three years as an operations attorney at Inland Steel.

 

Clayton Holdings, a third-party due diligence firm for mortgage-backed securities, announced the hiring of Robert Harris as general counsel. Harris previously served as chief legal officer of OpHedge Investment and as a managing shareholder at Zeldes, Needle & Cooper. He also worked at Levett Rockwood, where his practice focused on litigation, arbitration and mediation of complex commercial disputes. 

Other In-House Moves

After nearly 13 years with the company, Yahoo! Inc. executive VP and general counsel Mike Callahan announced his retirement. Callahan joined the Internet corporation in 1999 and assumed the general counsel role almost nine years ago. He did not specify a reason for his departure, saying only that he wanted to explore new opportunities. Ron Bell, the company’s deputy counsel for products and the Americas regions, will serve as interim GC.


Anthony Rutledge, general counsel and chief financial officer at HEI Hotels & Resorts, has been promoted to CEO. During his decade with the company, Rutledge has overseen the hospitality chain’s growth and acquisitions, as well as the sourcing of its debt and equity financing. He also has experience in hospitality finance, hotel operations and human resources.

 

Murphy Oil Corp. announced that former executive vice president and general counsel Steve Cossé will assume the role of president and chief executive officer. Cossé retired from his GC post last year, though he remained a member of the company’s board. Before joining Murphy Oil in 1991, he served as general counsel of Ocean Drilling & Exploration Co.
