Longtime Yahoo GC resigns

Mike Callahan will exit the top legal position July 9

There is yet another shake up in Yahoo’s c-suite. Only two months after the company’s CEO Scott Thompson resigned over claims that he lied on his resume, the company’s longtime executive vice president and general counsel announced his departure.

A company memo said that Callahan had been considering a departure from Yahoo since the beginning of the year, and that he is not leaving to join another company. Mike Callahan joined Yahoo in 1999, and has served in the GC role for almost 10 years.

The company disclosed Callahan’s departure plan in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday. Callahan’s resignation will be effective July 9.

"After twelve and a half years with Yahoo!, and almost nine years as our General Counsel, Mike Callahan has notified me of his decision to leave Yahoo! So that he can move on to new opportunities," reads the internal memo sent by interim CEO Ross Levinsohn and published by AllThingsD. "We would like to thank him sincerely for his time at the Company."

Callahan said in his resignation letter that he wanted to explore new opportunities. "As I depart, I have great confidence in Yahoo and I wish you and the rest of the Yahoo team all the best for future successes," he wrote in a letter to Levinsohn and Yahoo Chairman Alfred Amoroso.

Yahoo’s current deputy general counsel for products and the Americas region, Ron Bell, will serve as interim GC until the company finds a replacement.
