9 noteworthy in-house career moves

Charting some of the most recent GC and in-house appointments

GC Appointments

Hewlett-Packard Co. named John Scultz its new executive vice president and general counsel. Schultz, who replaces former GC Michael Holston, joined HP in 2008. His previous work experience includes stints at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, Drinker Biddle & Reath and Latham & Watkins.

 

Pharmaceutical company Eisai Inc. has appointed Allen Waxman to the position of senior vice president and general counsel. In his new role, he will oversee the company’s U.S. legal matters and serve on its executive committee. Prior to joining Eisai, Waxman was general counsel of Pfizer and a partner and chair of Kaye Scholer’s life sciences group.


Michelle Spreitzer is the new vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services USA. She joined the company in 1996 as a staff attorney, and most recently focused on consumer regulatory affairs and employment law. Spreitzer succeeds Matthew Roy, who will now serve as vice president of human resources and administration.

 

INRIX announced the hiring of Tracy Daw as general counsel. Daw joins the company after 12 years at RealNetworks Inc., where he managed the company’s global legal affairs and corporate development as senior vice president and chief legal officer.


Thomas Moriarty joined Celgene Corp. as general counsel and corporate secretary. Moriarty has years of experience in the health care industry, including a 12-year stint at Medco Health Solutions, where he worked as president of global pharmaceutical strategies, senior vice president of business development and—most recently—corporate secretary and general counsel.

 

After 18 years, Helen Pudlin is stepping down as executive vice president and general counsel of PNC Financial Services Group Inc. at the end of May. Before assuming the GC role in 1994, she was a partner at Ballard Spahr for 15 years.  Replacing Pudlin is Robert Hoyt, PNC’s current senior deputy general counsel and chief regulatory affairs officer.

Law Firm News

John Sander joined Jackson Lewis as a partner in its New York office. Sander has 15 years of senior management experience, including a stint as vice president and associate general counsel at Merck & Co. Inc., where he oversaw international labor and employment matters after its merger with Schering Plough.

 

Gibson Dunn & Crutcher appointed Neil Whiteman as of counsel at its Washington, D.C. office, where his new practice will focus on government contracts. He joins the firm from Lockheed Martin Space Systems Co., where he spent nearly three years as corporate counsel. From 2007 to 2009, Whiteman led a trial team of 34 attorneys and paralegals as chief trial attorney for the U.S. Air Force.

 

Jackson Lewis added Paul Kelly as a partner in its sports law practice. Kelly has years of senior management experience in the collegiate and professional sports arenas, notably serving as executive director of the National Hockey Players’ Association for two years. He most recently established and worked as executive director of College Hockey Inc., which promotes and recruits for NCAA men’s hockey.
