Counterfeit designer handbags are not just a fashion no-no, but a serious violation of trademark law. The International Trade Commission (ITC) recently ruled in favor of fashion label Louis Vuitton in a case the company brought against makers of counterfeit bags.
Louis Vuitton accused several businesses in both the U.S. and China of manufacturing and importing unauthorized handbags featuring the brand’s iconic monogram, and the ITC ruled that the companies were infringing on Louis Vuitton’s IP.
The remedy is as yet unknown, but will likely include an order banning the import of the counterfeit bags, and may cover all infringing products, not just those made by the companies that were defendants in this lawsuit, Reuters reports.
