It’s time to dust off the old pennant and show some school spirit, and not just for March Madness. U.S. News & World Report today released its 2013 Best Law Schools ranking, and while there was a bit of shuffling in the top 14, there were no real shocking changes.
Despite Yale Law School remaining in the top spot that it’s continuously held since 1990, the Nos. 2 and 3 schools swapped, with Stanford Law School ascending past Harvard Law School for the first time since 2007 (the schools were tied for No. 2 in 2008 and 2009).
The University of California—Berkley School of Law and University of Virginia School of Law both moved up two slots to tie for No. 7 with the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, while the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor Law School dropped from No. 7 to No. 10.
Other notable moves included Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law jumping to No. 26 spot, up 14 from No. 40 last year, following a 15-spot jump from No. 55 on the 2011 list. The University of Washington School of Law leapt 10 spots to No. 20, while the Emory University School of Law and the Washington and Lee University School of Law both moved up six spots and remain tied at No. 24.
