Owner of Tarzan and John Carter characters sues over allegedly infringing comics

Company claims it never gave permission to comic book companies to use the characters

Disney’s upcoming film, the sure-to-be masterpiece “John Carter,” is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ character John Carter of Mars, an antebellum Southern gentleman who is transplanted to—you guessed it—Mars.

Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. (ERB), the company that owns Burroughs’ trademarks, is suing comic book distributor Dynamic Forces and its publisher Dynamite Entertainment over books based on the rugged alien-befriender, as well as Burroughs’ other famous character Tarzan.
