Starbucks GC to retire, will join Obama's re-election campaign

Paula Boggs has led the coffee company's legal department for 10 years

Starbucks’ General Counsel Paula Boggs announced this week she will retire from her position of 10 years in April. Boggs is leaving the world’s largest coffee chain to join President Obama’s re-election campaign.

Boggs joined Starbucks as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary in 2002, after a successful career as an executive with Dell Inc. Prior to that, she was a partner at Preston Gates & Ellis (now K&L Gates).

Boggs started her legal career in 1984 while serving in the military as a United States Army Officer assigned to the Pentagon. She also worked as a staff attorney for the White House during that time. After leaving the service in 1988, she worked as assistant U.S. attorney in the Western District of Washington State before moving to law firm work.

Last year, the president appointed Boggs to the White House Council for Community Solutions, which has worked on community-developed solutions to youth development, education and employment.

In her role with the re-election campaign, Boggs will be based in Seattle and Santa Fe.
