10 noteworthy in-house career moves

Charting some of the most recent GC and in-house appointments

Samaha

GC Appointments

Orbit Showtime Network appointed Helena Samaha as general counsel. Samaha joins the Middle East subscription television service after previously serving as general counsel for AlixPartners.

Pangburn

Charles Pangburn was appointed vice president and general counsel of UC Health. Pangburn previously served as chief legal officer and general counsel of University of Cincinnati Physicians, and worked to merge UC Health and UC Physicians into one organization.

Kemp

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, or the Actuarial Profession, hired Kingsley Napley partner Ben Kemp as general counsel after Kemp served as acting general counsel to the company on a part-time basis since May. Kemp brings experience in advising regulatory and professional bodies to the legal team in Edinburgh.

Allison

Lauren Allison joined Spherexx.com as general counsel and executive assistant to Becca Wilson, president and CEO of the web development company. Allison formerly served as president of the Creek County Bar Association, and as a delegate to the Oklahoma Bar Association House of Delegates.

Schulman

ASCD named Lori Schulman general counsel of the organization’s recently established legal department. Schulman formerly was the proprietor of Schulman Legal Services, and a former board member of the International Trademark Association.

Alger

Rutgers University Senior Vice President and General Counsel Jonathan Alger announced his departure from the university to begin his new role as the sixth president of James Madison University, effective July 1, 2012. Before spending seven years at Rutgers, Alger was assistant general counsel and adjunct faculty member at the University of Michigan.

Howicz

NewComLink named James Howicz general counsel. Howicz was previously executive legal director at Dell and will oversee legal matters at NewComLink, including patent, trademark and other corporate affairs.

Darling

Scott Darling joined Trulia.com as general counsel. Darling, who previously worked for Imperva, Microsoft and Danger, brings more than 15 years of business and legal experience to the real estate website.

Sturt

Other In-House Moves

Micrel Inc. announced the promotion of Colin Sturt to vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Sturt was the company’s legal counsel since 2010, and previously served as a corporate attorney at David Polk & Wardwell.

Hesse

Diebold Inc. promoted Chad F. Hesse to vice president, general counsel and secretary. Hesse previously served as senior corporate counsel and corporate secretary. Before joining Diebold in August 2004, Hesse was an associate attorney at Hahn Loeser + Parks.
