AT&T settles EEOC age discrimination lawsuit

Company must ensure former workers aren’t banned from being rehired

AT&T Inc. recently learned a valuable lesson well known to many young children: Respect your elders.

Yesterday AT&T settled a nationwide lawsuit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in which the agency accused the telecommunications company of age discrimination. The EEOC sued AT&T in August 2009 for allegedly refusing to rehire nearly 50,000 of employees who had retired from the company under three different retirement programs between 1998 and 2005.
