A recent survey by the Association for Legal Career Professionals has reported a somewhat grim outlook for recent law school graduates. According to the findings, average law firm salaries for first-year associates has dropped 10 percent in 2010 from 2009. The mean salary for 2010 law students entering private practice was $84,111 compared with $93,454 from the previous year.
In addition to salaries, the survey reported on the overall employment rate of 2010 law school grads, and the news was no better. Only 68.4 percent of 2010 law school grads obtained jobs that required them to pass the bar, and 7 percent of those jobs were part-time. Additionally, 22.7 percent of respondents reported that they were currently looking for different jobs in the legal profession.
