E.U. Pledges $273 Million for Pipeline Project

The European Commission announced Thursday it would dedicate $273 million to a 2,000 mile natural gas pipeline project that would connect Turkey to Bulgaria, the New York Times reports.

In light of new findings that biofuels that the EU had counted on as a fuel alternative could damage tropical areas and wetlands, some see this as a move to protect the EU from a future fuel crisis.

The E.U's had a tough go of things on the environmental front recently. Despite aggressive emission reduction targets pledged at the Copenhagen talks in December 2009, most other countries failed to follow suit. And by some reports, the commission was pushed to the side during negotiations.

For complete coverage on Copenhagen and the current state of climate change policy and litigation in the U.S., check back for the April issue of InsideCounsel, coming soon.
