InsideCounsel Magazine's 2010 Transformative Leadership Awards

InsideCounsel magazine, the leading monthly business publication for general counsel and in-house legal executives, is now accepting entries for the First Annual Transformative Leadership Awards, scheduled for May 24, 2010, in Chicago, Ill.

The awards, which will be presented at a gala dinner in conjunction with InsideCounsel's10th Annual SuperConference, honor women general counsel and law firm partners who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the empowerment of women in corporate law.

Michele Coleman Mayes, senior vice president, general counsel & chief legal officer, Allstate Insurance Company, will co-chair the 2010 National Awards Committee along with Cathleen Flahardy,InsideCounsel magazine's editor-in-chief. Along with a distinguished group of general counsel from leading corporations and partners at top law firms, they will participate in the selection of the 2010 winners.

"This will be a very different awards dinner because the primary focus will be to identify and honor success stories in which women general counsel have sent substantial amounts of business to women partners," Allstate's Mayes said.

"We are delighted that general counsel from companies such as McDonald's, CIGNA, Gap, Oracle, Clorox and many others, have agreed to serve on the National Awards Committee and will be deciding the winners," InsideCounsel's Flahardy said.

Awards Categories:

The Anastasia D. Kelly Award
This award will honor a woman general counsel who has taken active steps to help other women achieve her goal of becoming a general counsel. The award is named for Anastasia Kelly, who was most recently Vice Chairman, Legal, Human Resources, Corporate Communications and Corporate Affairs at American International Group, Inc.

The Pamela L. Carter Award
The award will be given to a former general counsel who currently heads a major business unit in a Fortune 100 company (public or private). Pamela Carter was General Counsel at Cummins, Inc. before becoming President of the Cummins Distribution Business.

The Economic Empowerment Awards (3)
One award will be presented jointly to a general counsel and woman partner in a law firm who have collaborated to increase the economic empowerment of women in that firm. Two awards will be presented to law firms based on the following criteria:

o Percentage of women on the executive or management committee
o Percentage of women on the equity partnership committee
o Number of women with books of business that exceed $1 million per year
o Percentage of women who are relationship managers
o Percentage of women on compensation committee

Finalists from each awards category will be honored at the May awards ceremony and conference at the Fairmont Chicago. The 2009 conference was attended by more than 400 senior in-house legal executives.
